OMG. LOL. THIS. That award moment when a new comedy coming to ABC this fall will tell the story about a narcissistic social media maven and her attempt to find a life offline.
ABC released the first trailer for that TV series — Selfie — on Tuesday ahead of the network's annual upfront presentation to advertisers in New York City.
Doctor Who's Karen Gillan will star as the self-absorbed Eliza Dooley, who ABC describes as having "263,000 followers who hang on to her every post, tweet and selfie."
Her marketing pal Henry, played by John Cho from Star Trek Into Darkness, will guide Eliza on her journey to connect with people in the real world rather than just online.
Selfie is loosely based on the 1956 musical My Fair Lady, which also a included lead characters named Eliza and Henry. That Eliza wanted to become more lady-like, and to do so, she asked a professor Henry Higgins to give her speech guidance.
Aside from Gillan and Cho, the trailer features Da'Vine Joy Randolph as Charmonique. Selfie is written by Emily Kapnek and directed by Julie Anne Robinson.
